Directions on how to take
Ultram comes as a tablet and taken orally. It usually is taken every 4-6 hours as needed. It may be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Ultram exactly as directed. Ultram can be habit-forming. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Warnings and Precautions
Before taking Ultram, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease; liver disease; or a history of alcohol or drug dependence. You may not be able to take Ultram, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above. Do not take this medicine if you have had a severe allergic reaction to codeine, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, or oxycodone (such as Tylox, Tylenol with Codeine, Vicodin). A severe allergic reaction includes a severe rash, HIVes, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to this medicine, or if a certain medicine contains codeine, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, or oxycodone, contact your doctor or pharmacist. If you experience difficulty breathing, tightness of chest, swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or HIVes, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more doses of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so.
Possible Side Effects
Although side effects from Ultram are not common, they can occur. The most frequently reported events were in the central nervous system (Migraine, Speech disorders) and gastrointestinal system (Gastrointestinal bleeding, Hepatitis, Stomatitis, Liver failure), dizziness, headache, drowsiness, blurred vision, upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: fast heartbeat, redness, swelling, and itching of the face, numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, difficulty breathing, changes in urination, seizures.
Storage
Dispense in a tight container. Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15 - 30°C (59 - 86°F).
Additional Information
Use of this medicine is not recommended if you are also taking cyclobenzaprine or medicine for depression or other emotional or mood disorders. If you are taking any of these medicines, be sure your doctor knows. Additional monitoring of your dose or condition may be needed if you are taking bupropion, narcotic analgesics, carbamazepine, or have a history of seizures. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have an allergy to codeine or related medicine (e.g., hydrocodone, oxycodone). Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
